Call for Proposals - SEED Awards 2010

Are you a start-up entrepreneur? Does your business or business idea integrate sustainable development, solving pressing social and environmental issues? Do you need support to help to establish and grow your enterprise?

If you meet SEEDs eligibility criteria, you could apply now for the 2010 SEED

Awards for entrepreneurship in sustainable development.

This year, as part of a larger project funded by the European Union on the Green Economy, the SEED Awards will have a special focus on Africa. While SEED is inaugurating its first country scheme in South Africa (click here to read more), it will also concentrate on Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Senegal.

This significant expansion means that SEED is able to make up to 35 awards in 2010, of which up to:


A.        10 awards will be made in South Africa

B.       20 awards will be made in 6 target countries in Africa, namely, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal

C.       5 awards elsewhere.

Each SEED Award Winner will receive a package of tailored support services consisting of:

A.        assistance and advice on developing and improving the initiativeʼs business plan

B.       a two-day in-country business-oriented workshop, involving all partners, and covering the key elements and factors which help to build a successful social and environmental enterprise

C.       high-level profiling of the initiative nationally, regionally and internationally, often with government officials, Ministers, development institutions and businesses

D.       assistance with access to relevant institutions, organisations, businesses, and to SEED winners, and alumni, SEED Partners, SEED Supporters, and SEED Associates

E.       development of a support plan

F.       a financial contribution of USD5000 towards implementation of certain item(s) in that support plan, as agreed between the winner and SEED.
